Hallmarking falls in Q3 as silver and palladium suffer

Hallmarking figures compiled by Birmingham Assay Office have revealed the number of articles hallmarked in Q3 2018 fell by 7.1% compared to the same quarter last year.

 

Palladium saw the biggest decline, with hallmarking down by 30.2%.Silver also posted a dip (18.1%), while gold and platinum numbers increased by 6.9% and 13.3% respectively.

 

The results for September make a rather bleak read, with hallmarking down for all metals apart from gold, which saw a 1.5% rise.
